Chiaki Park is the site of Kubota Castle, the residence of the Satake clan of the Akita Domain, which lasted for 267 years in 12 generations from 1602 to 1869, when the Japanese shogunate was overthrown. There is a moat surrounding the castle, and from mid-July to September each year, pale pink and white lotus flowers decorate the moat at the "Otemon no moat" near Akita Station. This year, the Otemon no moat promenade opened on July 11, allowing visitors to view the lotus blossoms more closely!

There are also six places along the promenade where visitors can stop and take pictures, allowing them to take their time photographing the lotus flowers.
