Cafe Nikai, an old private house cafe in downtown Yanaka

There are many famous cafes in the Yanaka area, but this time we visited an old private house cafe called "Cafe Nikai. Here, you can enjoy a nice cold cream soda, perfect for summer.

Café Nikai is located on the "second floor" of an old private house. The blue-colored interior is decorated with retro furniture and paintings designed in collaboration with the owner and artists. The furniture is vintage, so it is all different colors and shapes. The stained glass windows displayed in the store are items from "nido," a stained glass store in Yanaka. Also, the records in the store play Showa-era songs, which makes you feel nostalgic. Cafe Nikai is filled with many of the owner's specialties, from the food to the space.
Nikai's Cream Soda" is a specialty of the menu.

This time, I ordered the most popular Nikai's Cream Soda.
The clear blue color of the cream soda is, well...rumune soda! It is a Ramune Soda. The ice cream on top of the soda is not vanilla ice cream, but yogurt ice cream! On top of that is a little blueberry topping. And there is a cute flag at the top. The visuals, reminiscent of a children's lunch, are exciting no matter how old you are.
Not only does it look good, but of course it tastes great too. The yogurt ice cream enhances the freshness of the soda, and although it may look a little heavy, the refreshing taste makes it easy to eat.

The classic melon cream soda is also available.
The cherry on top of the vanilla ice cream looks very pretty. There are many other drinks on the menu, including limited-time-only cream sodas and floats, so it is recommended that you and your friends take a picture of your colorful drinks side by side!
Goods are also sold in the store!

At Cafe Nikai, you can also purchase goods.
You can purchase original Café Nikai goods and goods created in collaboration with the owner and illustrator.
The dishes used in Café Nikai are made by "kokonn," a vase shop located on the first floor. You can also purchase the plates you like on the first floor, depending on the inventory.
The ability to enjoy art and a bit of shopping as well as a coffee shop is a major attraction of Cafe Nikai.
It is also a great place to stop by for a stroll in the Ueno area!
How about immersing yourself in a nostalgic mood at "Café Nikai," with its Showa-era atmosphere?
However, it is recommended to make a reservation in advance because it is often crowded on weekends.
