The National Fireworks Competition, commonly known as "Omagari no Hanabi," boasts a history of over 100 years.
What sets Omagari Fireworks apart from other fireworks shows is that it is a competition of beauty and originality. The Omagari Fireworks Festival has become Japan's premier fireworks competition, attracting more than 600,000 spectators every year.
The Prime Minister's Prize and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry's Prize are awarded, and pyrotechnicians from all over Japan compete with each other as the culmination of the year's work.
The Omagari Fireworks Festival is the origin of creative fireworks, in which a theme is set and expressed with fireworks.
The major feature of the festival is that not only night fireworks but also daytime fireworks, which is rare among fireworks festivals, are displayed.

Special program by local pyrotechnicians

The pyrotechnists who won the Prime Minister's Award in the previous year's competition will launch "exhibition fireworks," and this year, a special program will be launched by local pyrotechnist Komatsu Smoke Industry Co. This is the first time in nine years that Komatsu Smoke Industry has received this award!

Fireworks provided by the competition

The "fireworks provided by the competition" have a reputation for being very good in terms of their grand scale utilizing their width, composition of the starmine in line with the theme, and innovative presentation, and many call it "the best wide starmine in Japan," making it one of the representative programs of Omagari's fireworks. The rapid-fire series of shots in the finale is particularly impressive!

This year, "Finlandia," a symphonic poem by Sibelius, has been chosen as the theme, and the fireworks will be staged on a grand scale, with a "prayer for peace" in the 5.5-minute-long piece.
The "exchange of yells," in which spectators wave lights to express their appreciation to the pyrotechnists after the fireworks have been launched, is also a specialty of the festival.
