88 Asakusa, a popular Japanese tea stand from Arashiyama, Kyoto

The main store "Hato Yaoyosha" is located in Arashiyama, Kyoto, and this Japanese tea stand offers high quality teas produced in Kyoto Prefecture, which were selected by former barista Junhiro Maruyama. The store, loved not only by tourists but also by many matcha fans, opened its first store in Tokyo in 2023.
Customize it to your liking! The most popular "Matcha Latte"!

This time, I ordered the popular "I" and "II" matcha lattes.
The "Matcha Latte I" (700 yen) is a blend of two types of Uji-Tawara green tea, "Okumidori" and "Samidori," and has a refreshing taste with a touch of bitterness.
On the other hand, the "Matcha Latte Ⅱ" (900 yen) is made by roasting one type of matcha, "Samidori" from Joyo, which gives it a deep matcha flavor.
Watch matcha being made right in front of you!

The matcha used for the matcha latte is, oh my! The staff will carefully prepare the matcha right in front of you. I couldn't help but admire the beautiful gesture. One of the charms of 88 Asakusa is that each cup of tea is carefully brewed and served freshly prepared. It is a luxurious time to enjoy the "culture of tea".
The aroma is authentic too!

The two types of matcha look almost the same, but the aroma is completely different.
The "Ichi" has a refreshing matcha aroma. Compared to the "1" matcha, the "2" has a stronger and deeper matcha aroma. Both had a nice aroma of matcha that made me want to keep smelling them.
Customize the taste to your liking! Toppings are recommended!

On this day, I topped it with the recommended "ice cream" and "shiratama" (white rice balls). As one would expect from a store specializing in matcha green tea, they are very particular about their ice cream. They are also very particular about their ice cream. The ice cream is made from the same matcha used in the "Matcha Latte Ichi" and the machine used is from Italy, the home of gelato. The smooth and rich ice cream was very delicious. The shiratama (white rice balls) are handmade in the store every day, so they are very soft and chewy.
The "I" is light and easy to drink, even for children. The "¡È2" has a deeper matcha flavor than the "¡È1" and you can feel more matcha. Because we focus on "tasting the matcha," the sweetness of the tea is not very strong, but you can change the sweetness to suit your taste.
We fully enjoyed the "Matcha Latte," which is full of attention to not only matcha, but also other things besides matcha! I recommend that you go there with your friends, lover, or family and compare the drinks♪

88 shakes

The 88 Shake is very popular every summer. The matcha shake has brown sugar ice cream underneath so you can enjoy the change in flavor.
We visited in early June and they had already started selling it. Matcha lovers will want to check this menu this summer.
88 Asakusa Pudding

88 pudding" is overwhelmingly popular at the main store. The 88 Pudding is a milk pudding topped with a thick matcha sauce, but the Asakusa Pudding also contains matcha in the milk pudding. In addition, the matcha sauce is poured on top of the milk pudding, allowing customers to enjoy a richer matcha taste.
Many customers order the matcha latte and the Asakusa pudding as a set.
The Asakusa Pudding is a limited edition sweet that can only be tasted at 88 Asakusa. It is also available for takeout, so it is definitely a must-have item.
