Attracted by the retro Showa-era appearance, I wandered over to Chiruchiru.

As you walk along the Naritasan Omotesando Avenue, which still retains traces of the Edo period, you will discover a retro Showa-era appearance! Chiruchiru, a Western-style brick building that blends in with the Japanese atmosphere, is a pure coffee shop that has been loved by visitors and locals for over 50 years in front of the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple gate. Once inside, you are greeted by European-style chandeliers, artwork, and antique chairs and tables. As you take a seat and look around, the beautiful space makes you feel as if you have stepped back in time to the 1970s. The comfortable space seems to make you lose track of time.

After picking up the menu and settling in, I felt a glance and looked outside to see a cute customer at the entrance! When I asked the owner, she told me that they were local cats. There are several of them, and they are watched over by everyone in the neighborhood. Some people come to the store looking forward to seeing them. If that is the case, then these cats may be beckoning cats, important members of the staff who make the store more lively.

When you come to the store, you should definitely try the "Mitsumame" (honey beans). The agar, which is made from carefully drained precious amagusa from Boso, Chiba Prefecture, is rich in flavor, a little larger than usual, and has a rich, crunchy texture! The kintoki, purple flower beans, and white flower beans take about 20 days to cook through the process. The beans are carefully cooked and the water is changed every day to remove the roughness, resulting in beans that are exquisitely sweet and tender. The beans are served with black honey made from millet sugar.

When the "Mitsumame" is brought to your table, the staff says to you, "Please eat the white beans as the topping last. This is the Chiruchiru way. When you take the last bite, you will find that the white flower bean topping is just the right amount of salt. They are indispensable to soothe the palate after a sweet treat.

The "Mitsu-mame" at "Chiruchiru" is a luxurious dish that is full of Mom's wish for her customers to spend their time with something good, but at the same time, it is a taste that will make you feel at home with this good atmosphere. It is a dish that conveys Mama's desire to sell her customers their precious moments. Please enjoy the "Mitsumame," Mama's pride and joy, which is said to be hard to find anywhere else.

While you are waiting for your coffee, the mellow aroma of coffee spreads through the store like an aroma. That alone is soothing. Mama's thoughtfulness extends to the coffee beans, the way they are ground, and even the pouring vessel. She uses coarsely ground coffee beans, not finely ground for the coffee filter, to brew a cup of blissful coffee. It was even more delicious when I felt Mom's attention to detail.
