Gelato" is one of the most popular among Japanese people.
This time, we would like to introduce you to the authentic taste of Gelato made by "Gelato Knights", of which there are only a few in Japan! The location is about an 8-minute walk from Izumi-chuo Station, a 15-minute subway ride on the Namboku Line from Sendai Station. It is a little far from the downtown area of Sendai, but it is worth the trip! Why don't you enjoy the authentic Italian taste of "Gelato"?
What is "Gelato Knight"?
As of June 2024, there are 12 "Gelato knights" in Japan.
How did you become a "Gelato Knight"?
One of them is the owner, Mr. Yuya Kikuchi, who is also a local of Izumichuo.
They originally worked in Ishikawa Prefecture, where they met their mentor, Mr. Taizo Shibano of "MALGA GELATO", at a business partner. Mr. Taizo Shibano has been the best in Japan and the best in the world at numerous gelato competitions, and he is also a "Gelato Ambassador," which is a higher rank than "Gelato Knight. There are only 10 ambassadors in the Italian Gelato Association, and Shibano is the only Asian ambassador, while the other 9 are Italian.
The two were in a supervisory position, but they became so passionate about making gelato themselves that they volunteered to become apprentices, and after 5 years of training in Ishikawa Prefecture, they moved to Izumichuo in September 2020. At the end of September 2020, after five years of training in Ishikawa Prefecture, we opened our own store in our current location in Izumi-chuo.

The name "Liberta" means "freedom" in Italian, and it expresses the owner's desire to create delicious food in a free and simple way, rather than trying to create something popular or something that will sell well.

The commitment to making "Gelato
In Italy, where the gelato is made, there are vegetable gelato made with "bell peppers," "carrots," "broccoli," and "cauliflower"; three years ago, they also made vegetable gelato with "asparagus," "edamame," and hot peppers! However, the staff who tasted the super spicy gelato fainted in agony.
And the charm of gelato is that even the same milk flavor has a completely different taste depending on the store.
We are "Gelato Knights" making use of the know-how we learned from Italy, the home of gelato, and from our masters to create products with the utmost care and attention.
This service was started for customers who are too brave to order one, but would like to try some.
Incidentally, the staff member we interviewed asked for a bite of "mango pineapple" and "lemon," and they were so delicious that they became candidates for the next time they visit the restaurant.
