The Iriya Morning Glory Festival, a festival of morning glories that is familiar to Japanese people, will be held from July 6 (Sun.) to July 8 (Tue.), 2025! Centered around Iriya Kishimojin in Ueno, Kototoi Street is lined with many morning glory vendors and stalls, attracting 100,000 to 200,000 people to this one of the largest morning glory markets in Japan.

Iriya Morning Glory Festival Hours

The morning glory festival is held over three days, but due to the nature of morning glories to bloom early in the morning, it is held from early morning, starting at 5:00 a.m. The festival is also held on Kototoi-dori, the main street! The main Kototoi-dori Street will be open to pedestrians after 12:00 on Sunday, the first day of the festival, so you can enjoy the atmosphere of the festival even more.

The Iriya Morning Glory Festival is held from early morning, but if you want to buy morning glories in their best condition, we still recommend going early in the morning when it is cooler. The streets are less crowded, and you can take your time while chatting with the Edo-style shopkeepers. Some flowers will wilt near noon, but the food stalls will start operating around noon, so if you are looking for gourmet food, we recommend visiting from noon onward when the festival becomes a pedestrianized zone!

During the Iriya Morning Glory Festival, limited edition red seals for the Morning Glory Festival are available (for a fee) at the Iriya Kishimojin precincts. The limited edition red seal is only available in the form of a bookplate, and will be closed when the number of red seals awarded has been reached, so we recommend that you visit as soon as possible if you wish to receive one. It has a very cool design with an illustration of a morning glory. Other limited edition amulets with morning glory decorations are also available. Before receiving the amulet, visitors are purified with a flint stone. It looks like it will bring you good luck. This is also popular, so be sure to come early if you wish to purchase one!
