About WAKURABA

WAKURABA" (operated by Haneda Mirai Research Institute Co., Ltd.) is a café that transmits information based on the concept of "conveying the charms of various regions of Japan through food. The name "wakuraba" means "unexpected encounter. We hope that our customers will learn about the area through its flavors and want to visit it. We want to bring people and the region together. We want to bring people and regions together.

We have set up a PR space to display and sell local products and crafts so that customers can also experience the charm of the region, thereby connecting customers with the region.

3 kinds of frozen Shirokuma

The first thing that caught my eye was the cute Shirokuma ice cream. Frozen Shirokuma is a sweet inspired by Kagoshima's famous ice confection, Shirokuma, and created by a famous patisserie in Kagoshima City. Three types are offered at Wazouba: "Bran-chan" in the standard condensed milk flavor, "Milju-chan" in the strawberry milk flavor, and "Lulu-kun" in the berry yogurt flavor (803 yen each *in-store price including tax).

We actually had the condensed milk-flavored "Bran-chan. As you eat through the moderately sweet, crunchy yet smooth condensed milk frozen, you will see that it contains various fruits. Bran-chan contains as many as six different fruits: mandarin oranges, peaches, pineapples, grapes, blueberries, and cherries. The sweetness and sourness of the condensed milk and each fruit go very well together.

The combination of melted ice cream and smooth baked sweet potato made from "Beniharuka," which derives its name from its appearance and taste being "far superior" to existing sweet potatoes, is an excellent menu item. The Beniharuka itself is elegantly sweet, served at the right temperature to enhance its sweetness, and is a perfect match for the cold vanilla ice cream.

You can choose from a single item (in-store price 880 yen including tax) or a drink set (coffee, black tea, hojicha, green tea *HOT only for hojicha and green tea, in-store price 1,210 yen including tax).

Fruit sandwiches are lined up in a refrigerator in front of the store. These products are immensely popular at the "Green Store" supermarket in Yusa-machi, Akumi-gun, Yamagata Prefecture. Currently, it is handled at three stores in Tokyo: Wazouba, Haneda Sanchokan, and Kabuki-za in Ginza, Tokyo. The beautiful appearance of the product attracts the attention of many people, and when eaten, the harmony of the large fruit and exquisitely sweet cream is superb, making it popular among airport staff.
Out of the bag, it's quite a volume!
The fruit is large, the cream is plentiful, and it is cool because it was chilled in the refrigerator. There are so many varieties to choose from that it is hard to decide which one to try. While I was having a hard time deciding, the clerk at Wazouba talked to me and told me that Kagoshima City in Kagoshima Prefecture and Tsuruoka City in Yamagata Prefecture are brother cities.

Various types of 100% straight juice (apple, peach, grape, and Lafuransu 180ml priced 378 yen including tax *385 yen for eat-in customers including tax) made from Yamagata Prefecture's fruits are also popular products because they are safe for everyone from children to foreign tourists. The refreshing fruit flavor will relieve a little fatigue from traveling.

By the way...

After something sweet, we also want to eat something sweet and salty! I want something warm and comforting even in summer! For those who are so inclined, we recommend the Kurobuta Nikuman from Kagoshima or the Ecchu Buri Manju from Toyama!

We are now promoting the charms of Japan!

Ltd., the operator of Wazobaba, will conclude a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Kagoshima Prefecture in December 2022 to utilize the potential of Haneda Airport for the purpose of revitalizing the Kagoshima region. As a pioneer of this agreement, we will promote Kagoshima products and hold events to support producers through Wazuraba.

When it first opened, the store started out as a cooperative project with Haneda Airport's local government, with Kagoshima as the sole focus. Today, it continues to handle about 30% of all products from Kagoshima Prefecture, and while it continues to develop products from Kagoshima Prefecture, it also develops products from various regions of Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa, and holds events in conjunction with these products to serve as a place for local governments and producers to promote their products.

How do you select the products you carry in your stores?

Wazouba's buyers procure products from a network of local governments, regions, and producers that is unique to Haneda Airport. Wazouba's concept is to "connect people and regions," and when selecting products, we do not just sell famous regional specialties, but also carefully discuss with producers to select products that symbolize the culture of each region, local gems that are not well known yet, products that are rooted in the local society, and products from producers who have a passion to make the local community more prosperous. We also try to carry products from producers who are rooted in the local community or who have a passion for promoting the local community.

Seats

The store has counter seating with a power supply installed, so that anyone from small children to those who want to use the space as a co-working space for working on a PC or having a small meeting can spend time while tasting delicious café menu items from various regions.
There are tables in the center of the store and counter seats on the arrival lobby side.
At the back of the restaurant, there is a small tatami seating area. It is also used as an event space.

Space for selling products and displaying crafts

Foods from all over Japan (fruits, vegetables, pickles, seasonings, jams, sweets, rice crackers, retort-pouch foods, dried noodles, etc.), alcohol (sake, wine, shochu, whiskey, etc.), and tea (black tea, Japanese tea, etc.) are available. Among these, the rare Japanese honey bee honey <Rin> from Satahezuka, Minami-Osumi Town, Kagoshima, which sold out about 1,000 honey bees in one year, is a particularly popular product. It is characterized by its rich yet refreshing sourness and sweetness that disappears quickly, making it a perfect special gift for those who care about their health or for special anniversaries.

Visitors can also purchase the artifacts on display, as well as vessels, tumblers, figurines, bags, key chains, accessories, and other items for sale.
