Tonami Tulip Fair (Taken on April 25, 2024)
Tonami City in Toyama Prefecture is one of the leading tulip production areas in Japan, producing many high-quality bulbs. The spring event held in Tonami City is the Tonami Tulip Fair! Usually held from late April to GW, about 3 million tulips are in full bloom at the fairgrounds, and visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery of blue sky and colorful tulips.

You can see last year's Tonami Tulip Fair in this article.

The theme for 2024 is "Spreading Waves of Color with Tulips.

Fountain and Tulip Tower
This year's Tonami Tulip Fair will be held from Tuesday, April 23 to Sunday, May 5. As of April 25, the day the photo was taken, the blooming was at 70%! There were a few buds in shady areas, but many tulips were already in bloom. (About 80% were in bloom the next day...!) Although not as much as last year, this year's blooming seems to be a little earlier than expected due to the continued warm weather, and is expected to reach full bloom around the end of April. Please check the official website for information on the status of tulip blooming and the parking lot.

This year's theme is "Spreading Waves of Color with Tulips. In the large flowerbed in the center of the park, a terrestrial painting of 210,000 flowers of 15 varieties will be on display, depicting the "smiles," "healing," and "excitement" generated by the colorful tulips in full bloom inside and outside the fair site, spreading like ripples around the world. Please climb the Tulip Tower, the symbol of the park, to enjoy the view from the top. You can also see it from the panoramic terrace on the roof of the Cultural Hall next to the park and from the Tulip Skywalk next to the tower.

Hana-no-Otani Entrance
Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Toyama Prefecture, is famous for its "Snowy Valley" in spring. The "Flower Valley" is a 4-meter-high corridor of tulips that is reminiscent of the Snow Valley! The area immediately after entering from the entrance is lined with white tulips that resemble a wall of snow. As you move toward the exit, the colorful tulips change to create a spring-like atmosphere. The day of the photo shoot was a weekday, so I was able to take my time to look around, but this is a popular photo spot every year, so you may want to be prepared to wait in line during GW.

Dinosaur Museum in Tonami Tulip Fair

In commemoration of the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen Line between Kanazawa and Tsuruga, fossil specimens from the collection of the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum were on special display at the Tonami City Museum of Art located within the venue! Visitors can enjoy seven powerful specimens, including a full-body skeletal specimen of a Fukuisaurus. In addition, a bench where you can take a commemorative photo with "Dr. Dinosaur" will be available all the way from Fukui, so be sure to take a picture with him!
