Sakura, Chiba, a city that still retains its satoyama landscape. The Sakura Kusabue-no-oka Rose Garden, a corridor-style rose garden that looks like an exotic place, is located at the Sakura Kusabue-no-oka Rose Garden, a facility loved by the people living in Sakura. The Rose Festival is held every year in May, when the roses are at their best, and in 2024 it will run from Sunday, May 12 to Sunday, June 2. Hall of Fame rose garden "Sakura Kusabue-no-oka Rose Garden

The Sakura Kusabue-no-oka Rose Garden is planted with 2,500 roses of 1,250 varieties, mainly heritage roses. Heritage roses are old roses (*2) that were created through natural crossing and breeding before the birth of wild roses and modern roses (*1). Heritage means heritage or tradition in English. As the name suggests, it means a rose with a long history and high value. At the Sakura Kusabue-no-oka Rose Garden, many volunteers manage the cultivation of roses to preserve these precious heritage roses for future generations.

Inside the garden
In 2014, the Rose Garden was inducted into the Rose Garden Hall of Fame by The Great Rosarians of the World Program of the Huntington Library, Museum and Botanical Garden in the United States. This was the first time for a rose garden to be inducted into the Rose Garden Hall of Fame in Asia. In 2015, the garden received the Outstanding Garden Award at the 17th World Congress of the World Federation of Rose Societies. The award is given to the most outstanding rose garden in the world, and Sakura Kusabue-no-oka received a perfect score in all evaluation categories.

Various corners in the park

There are 15 corners in the garden, including a corner with fragrant roses, a corner with assorted colors of roses, and a corner with roses from different countries of origin. Here are some of the corners with distinctive names.

White & Pink Corner

As the name suggests, this corner is a collection of white and pink roses. The white roses are arranged around the pink roses, making it look like a painting. White and pink are the most common colors of old roses. Most of the roses in this corner are also old roses, so the fragrance is very attractive and enchanting.

Asian species corner

It is said that roses originated around the Himalayas and spread to the northern hemisphere from there. In this corner, roses distributed from southwestern China to the Himalayas and the Middle East are planted.

Fragrance Corner

Just one step into this corner and you will be enveloped by the fragrance of roses. Most old roses have a good fragrance, but in this corner, in addition to old roses, we have also collected modern roses that have a particularly good fragrance. Why not find your favorite rose fragrance?

Roses created by Indian rose breeder Mr. and Mrs. Viru Viragavan are planted here. This corner is filled with the couple's dream of "roses that grow well even in tropical regions. We will keep an eye on the future growth of the roses.

Sakura Kusabue-no-oka Rose Festival 2024

The Sakura Kusabue-no-oka Rose Festival 2024 will be held from May 12 (Sun) to June 2 (Sun), 2024, coinciding with the best time to see the roses. During the event, rose-related events and garden concerts will be held. A special bus service will also be available on Saturdays and Sundays during the festival.

Event Information

There will be live concerts by singer-songwriter Yunami Yu, whose clear whisper voice is known as a soothing cotton voice, and piano concerts by Masashi Mizuto, who has released "The Rose: Famous Songs Named after Roses" and is active as a "rose pianist" performing at numerous rose gardens. He has performed at numerous rose gardens and is known as a "rose pianist!
