Hakkaisan ropeway will be open in 2024!

*Only groups with reservations can use the ropeway from Tuesday, May 7 to Friday, May 17
[Operating hours] All days 8:00A.M - 4:00P.M. (Last time of descent: 4:30P.M.)
*The ropeway usually operates every 20 minutes (every 00 minutes, 20 minutes, 40 minutes)
What is the Hakkaisan ropeway?
Hakkaisan (1,778 meters above sea level) is known as one of the three highest mountains in Echigo, together with Nakanodake and Echigo-Komagatake.
Hachikaisan ropeway is located in Muikamachi ski resort, with a total length of 2,217 meters, a capacity of 81 passengers, and a speed of 36 km/h. It takes only 7 minutes to reach the summit station at an altitude of 1,147 meters.
The observatory at the summit offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the beautiful scenery!
On a clear day, you can even see the Sea of Japan and Sado Island!

Enjoy picking wild vegetables on the slopes!
You can take a round-trip ropeway to harvest near the Sanrei Station, or take the ropeway one-way (uphill) and enjoy the view on the way down while harvesting!

Location: Within the ski slope management area
Fee: Picking wild vegetables (harvesting) Adult 2,000 yen
Picking wild vegetables + one-way ropeway Adult 3,000 yen
Picking wild vegetables + round trip ropeway Adult 3,500 yen
*Children up to elementary school age get a 1,000 yen discount from the adult fee.
*Only the plan for picking wild vegetables is available from May 7 (Tue.) to May 17 (Fri.).

*Wear long sleeves and military gloves on both top and bottom, and boots are recommended.
*The mountain path and slopes are not leveled.
Sea of clouds from the top of Mt.
Minamiuonuma is an area where sea of clouds occurs frequently.
The Uonuma Basin has a source of humidity, the Uonogawa River, making it an ideal area for fog to form.
Although it may not be possible to see the sea of clouds due to weather conditions, the morning air is clear and you can enjoy the best view in Niigata Prefecture.
This season, a special flight operates at 7:00 A.M. to view the early morning sea of clouds!

*Weather conditions on the day of the ride may cause cloud seas. Please note that sea of clouds may not occur depending on the weather conditions on the day of the tour.
Conditions for Sea of Clouds
Here are the conditions under which you can see the sea of clouds!
Three points of cloud sea appearance!
1. It must be clear early in the morning.
When the sun rises, the fog disappears.
The combination of sunrise and sea of clouds is the best!
2.The day when the temperature difference between day and night is large.
(e.g. rain the day before and clear skies the next day)
Mostly in spring and autumn
3.Days with little wind
Fog cannot stay in the air
and it flows away.
When these conditions are almost satisfied, a sea of clouds will occur.

You can enjoy seasonal views and scenery from the ropeway.
Also, sea of clouds can be seen from early spring to autumn.

Take the Joetsu Shinkansen bullet train from Echigo Yuzawa Station, transfer to the Joetsu Line or Hokuhoku Line, and get off at Muikamachi Station, about 13 km (30 minutes by bus or 25 minutes by car during normal hours).

Approx. 12 km from Muikamachi I.C. on the Kanetsu Expressway (approx. 20 minutes under normal circumstances). About 22 km from Koide I.C. (about 35 minutes under normal driving conditions). About 17 km from Yamato Smart I.C. (about 25 minutes under normal conditions).
