Between Osawa Onsen and Yamanokami Onsen in Hanamaki Onsen-kyo, known as one of the best hot springs in Tohoku, you will see a building that looks as if you have stepped back in time to the Showa period.

This is the mountain station "Showa no Gakko (School of Showa)" that I will introduce to you this time.

Showa no Gakko" was built in a closed elementary school building to make use of vacant facilities and revitalize the local community. The school re-creates the Showa era and brings life back into a school building that had fallen into disrepair.

The principal of the Showa School has been running around the Tohoku region for over 20 years, collecting over 200,000 nostalgic Showa items. Seventeen stores, including an electronics store, a record shop, and a candy store, were created inside the school to recreate a Showa-era shopping street.
It is a rare museum that can be enjoyed by those who know the Showa period, those who do not, and even foreign visitors.

If you visit Hanamaki Onsenkyo, please experience this retro Showa world for yourself!
