Tojinbo is one of the most famous sightseeing spots in Fukui Prefecture. Many people are probably familiar with its breathtaking scenery, but this time I would like to introduce Ojima, which is located off the coast of Tojinbo.

Mysterious island called "God's Island

Ojima is a small island with a circumference of about 2 km, formed from lava about 13 million years ago.
Visitors can enter the island via a vermilion-lacquered bridge, and there is a walking path that circles the island in about 40 minutes.
Unspoiled nature remains on the island's walking paths.
At the entrance to the island is a white torii gate, beyond which is the "Ominato Shrine," dedicated to prayers for safety at sea. The locals have long called the island "God's Island.
The island's pristine nature gives it a mysterious atmosphere.

The Sea of Japan and beautiful striped rocks

When the path opens up, the view that emerges is astonishing!
Along the walking paths, one can see many plate-like joints. After passing through a dense primeval forest, the sea and rocks are a powerful sight! Tojinbo has columnar joints made of pyroxene andesite, but this one has sheet-like joints made of rhyolite. The beautiful striped patterns can be seen up close, and the view of the rugged Sea of Japan is breathtaking.

Tojinbo can also be seen!

Tojinbo Tower can be seen across the sea.
From the island, you can also see Tojinbo on the other side. It takes about 40 minutes from Tojinbo by foot along the Araiso Walkway or about 15 minutes by bus, so please visit the island when you go to Tojinbo.
