The festival will be held from June 1 (Sun.) to June 30 (Mon.), 2025! Come and see the largest group of flowers in Japan with your own eyes!
More than 100 varieties of hydrangeas, including both native and exotic species, will be in full bloom in the park, and you will be dazzled by the colorful and vivid scenery of white, blue, pink, and purple. Please take your time and enjoy viewing the hydrangeas in Shimoda Park, where you can overlook the cityscape of Shimoda and Shimoda Port!

Call for "Shimoda Hydrangea Willow" contest!
【Reception/Posting Location】 Entrance of Kaikoku Hiroba
【Participation Methods and Conditions】First, get the "Shimoda Hydrangea Willow Form" at the entrance of Kaikoku Hiroba, then think of a willow that conjures up images of the Shimoda Park Hydrangea Festival and put it in the posting box at the entrance of Kaikoku Hiroba. Please put your submission in the box located at the entrance of the Kaikoku Hiroba. Submissions will be posted on the Tourism Association website.
Demonstration of Shimoda Taiko drum

Shimoda Taiko Drumming is a brave performance by the members of Shimoda Taiko Traditional Preservation Society. The traditional Shimoda-Daiko, which was established by Imamura Denshiro Masanaga, a Shimoda magistrate in the Edo period, is said to have its roots in the drums that were played when the Tokugawa forces entered Osaka Castle after their great victory in the Osaka Summer Battle. 400 years later, the traditional Shimoda-Daiko, passed down from parent to child and child to grandchild, will echo in the Ajisai-en Garden!
In case of rain, the event will be canceled.

At the Ajisai Teahouse, we recommend the Kinkoro Soba or Udon noodles (700 yen) with handmade Kinmekorokke, Ajisai Anmitsu (600 yen) using anko (sweet bean paste) from a local wagashi shop, and Ajisai Soda.
Also popular is the freshly squeezed local ama-natsu juice, which is unique to this season. The refreshing taste of the sweet summer fruits in season will quench your thirst.
