Daishi Park is a popular hanami spot in Kawasaki in spring.
The temperature difference this year has been quite a challenge for the body, with warmer days followed by a return to midwinter-like coldness. Nevertheless, the season is steadily moving forward, and spring is just around the corner. Daishi Park, located near Kawasaki Daishi Temple, which is famous for its charms to ward off bad luck, is one of the best spots for cherry blossom viewing in the Kawasaki area! This time, we have added information on cherry blossoms that can be seen in the park in April, along with the information on cherry blossoms introduced last year (2023), so please take a look!

What is Daishi Park like?

Daishi Park is located about a 10-minute walk from Kawasaki Daishi Station on the Keikyu Daishi Line. It is a spacious park with a baseball field, tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool (in summer), and a Chinese-style natural landscape garden called Shenxuen. The park is also home to a "wanchaku hiroba" (children's playground) with a colorful roller slide and other playground equipment, as well as a lawn area.

As the name suggests, the "Cherry Blossom Garden" within the park is a perfect area for cherry blossom viewing. Cherry blossoms everywhere are covered with petals, delighting visitors who come to view the cherry blossoms. You can take a walk, sit on a bench, or just relax on the lawn, watching the cherry blossoms sway in the wind. Daishi Park is located next to Kawasaki Daishi Hirama-ji Temple, which is famous for Hatsumode (New Year's visit to a temple) and for exorcising bad luck.

Shen Xiu Yuan, located in Daishi Park, is a Chinese-style natural landscape garden built in 1987 to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the sister city affiliation between Kawasaki City and Shenyang City, China. The name "Shen Xiu Yuan" means "a garden with a wonderful view of Shenyang," and the lapis lazuli tiles, wooden frames, lion statues, and Taihu stones used in the building were donated by the city of Shenyang. The garden is planted with seasonal plants such as azaleas, hydrangeas, and fragrant olive trees, and in spring, the colorful and pretty button flowers are at their best. Early and late blooming buttons bloom in turn each year, and there are said to be about 100 flowers. Depending on the temperature and the quality of the flowers, mid-April is usually the best time to see them. This year, due to the difference in temperature, the best time to see the flowers may change, so please check with the park management office before you go.
