The terraced rice paddies of Yosute, with as many as 1,500 rice paddies spread out on the gentle slopes of the paddies.
The rice paddies were opened between the Edo and Meiji periods, and the area has long been known as a famous place for viewing the moon, and is even mentioned in the Manyoshu (The Anthology of Myriad Leaves).
As the rice paddies were opened, the moon reflected in the small rice paddies began to attract attention, and the area was called "Tagomai no Tsuki," and haiku poets such as Matsuo Basho and Kobayashi Issa wrote numerous haiku about it.
The moon over the rice field is a beautiful and fantastic sight that can only be seen when the fields are filled with water before the rice planting season begins in earnest.
The terraced rice paddies of Nayasute have been selected as one of Japan's "Important Cultural Landscapes" and "The 100 Best Terraced Rice Paddies in Japan." They are so beautiful that many photographers visit the area to admire them in the morning, at night, and at any other time of the day.
Since machinery is not allowed in the terraced paddy fields, they are still farmed and protected by manual labor.
Why not come out to see this beautiful scenery?
