Sakura Bridge
Sakura-zaka" is a slope in the Denenchofu district of Ota Ward, Tokyo, and is said to be the origin of Masaharu Fukuyama's famous song "Sakura-zaka. The slope is located in a quiet residential area, and cherry blossoms bloom from late March every year. The rows of Someiyoshino cherry trees extend about 100 meters from the bottom of the slope to the top of the slope. A distinctive feature is the "Sakurabashi Bridge" in the middle of the slope, with a vermilion bridge like the one in the photo.

Let's start from Denenchofu "Sakura-zaka"!

Sakura-zaka" is about a 5-minute walk east from Tokyu Tamagawa Line Numabe Station. The road is lined with cherry trees on both sides of the slope, and the trees are in bloom as if they were covering the road. There are wooden posts and stone signs at the bottom and top of the slope for easy recognition.
The road is located in a residential area, so do not stop and enjoy the spring walking through the path lined with cherry trees.

Origin of Sakura-zaka

The name "Sakura-zaka" comes from the cherry trees planted on both sides of the road around the early Showa period. This slope is a cut through the old Nakahara Highway, and in the old days it was so steep that it was called "Numabe no Oosaka," and there were teahouses on both sides of the slope where visitors could take a rest, which is said to have been crowded with people passing by.
At the bottom of the slope, there used to be the Rokugo irrigation canal, which is now preserved as the "Rokugo Irrigation Canal Site.
