A big attention! Tsumekizaki, a popular sightseeing spot in Izu

Tsumekizaki Lighthouse
Izu Shimoda is famous for its crystal clear waters and for being the place where Perry arrived on the black ships. The town of Shimoda has a retro atmosphere reminiscent of some foreign country. One such popular winter sightseeing spot in Shimoda is Tsumekizaki, located on a cape on the Suzaki Peninsula, a prominent part of the Izu Peninsula. From the hilltop, you can see the chalk lighthouse against the crystal clear sea and blue sky, making it a popular sightseeing spot in Shimoda City for its spectacular coastal scenery. It is only a 20-minute ride by Tokai Bus from Izukyu Shimoda Station, so it can be reached on a day trip or without a car, which is one of its charms.

Some people may imagine Tsumekizaki, a cape, as a bleak scene with waves crashing on a rugged rocky beach, but in winter, Tsumekizaki offers a spectacular view of the blue sea and white flower fields in contrast.

The Shimoda Onsen Daffodil Festival is held annually from December 20 to January 31. The peak season in Tsumekizaki, which is also known as a place where wild daffodils grow in colonies, is in January, when 3 million daffodils are in full bloom, so much so that the white flowers look like a white carpet. The sweet fragrance of the daffodils reminds visitors of the early arrival of spring, and the contrast between the blue of the sea and the sky is breathtaking.
