Mikatagoko Rainbow Line Attractions

The Mikatagoko Rainbow Line is one of the best sightseeing spots in the Reinan area of Fukui Prefecture, from which you can see both the Mikatagoko Lakes and the Sea of Japan. The summit park is packed with attractions such as "five terraces" and "cafes" to enjoy while viewing the scenery. In this issue, we will introduce a few of the Rainbow Line's attractions.
Daimyo Danuki Kakubei

What is Daimyo Danuki Kakubei?

At the Rainbow Line lift cable station, a large raccoon dog welcomes you. This raccoon dog is Kakunibei, who appears in the folk tale "Daimyo Danuki Kakunibei," which is passed down from generation to generation in the fishing village of Hyuga, located at the foot of Umejodake on the Rainbow Line. Kakubeiwe was a mean raccoon dog who loved the procession of feudal lords, and would trick and annoy the villagers. Because of this anecdote, Kakubeiwe has long been loved by the locals.

Now it's time to go to the summit park!

View from the lift
Visitors can take the lift or cable car to the summit park. This time I took the lift. The view of the Sea of Japan and the blue sky spread out in front of us, and it was truly spectacular. My heart is pounding as the lift gradually rises higher and higher, and after a two-minute ride, we arrive at the summit park. If you are not fond of heights, take the cable car.

Spectacular view of Mihama Terrace

Spectacular view Footbath in the sky
The summit park has five terraces with spectacular views. This is the "Footbath in the Sky with a Spectacular View" on the Mihama Terrace. While soaking in the footbath, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the Mikata Goko (Five Lakes of Mikata) and the Sea of Japan. This spectacular view has been recognized by [Cool Japan Award 2019] and is truly a world-class view.

Make a wish at the "Kawarake-throwing"!

Kawarake Throwing
Kawarake (sun-dried "plates")
Please write your wish on a straw and throw it as high as you can toward the lake. Tengu-sama might make your wish come true..! The plate is made of a material that will turn to soil, so feel free to throw it as high as you like!

Visit "Wago Shrine" for matchmaking!

Wago Shrine
In the summit park, there is "Wago Shrine," which is famous for marriage. It is a very rare shrine where people worship facing each other. Many visitors come to the shrine every year to pray for the romance of "Senkichi and Mitsu," which is also the origin of the shrine. Why not visit the shrine as a couple, a couple, or a friend? Red seals (300 yen) are available at the store in the first parking lot.
