  • Souvenirs
The Hokuriku Shinkansen line will be extended to Tsuruga on March 16, 2024. This article introduces souvenirs available near Hokuriku Shinkansen stations in Fukui Prefecture.

Ashiharaonsen Station

In conjunction with the timing of the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension, a new facility was built at the west exit of Ashihara-onsen Station to create a new bustling area. It is called "Afrea. I found a space for selling goods in front of the tourist information center.
Satsukigase" is a famous confectionary representing Fukui Prefecture. It is a representative product of a long-established confectioner whose main store is located in Sakai City, a neighbor of Awara City. These rice crackers have a unique crunchy texture with the aroma of peanuts. The red packaged one on the right is called "Meisha Rose," which is a product created by applying the recipe of Gotsukigase sembe to create a new taste with a Western flavor.
Baked sweets using local specialties such as Tomitsu Kintoki (sweet potato) and Koshi-no-Ruby (tomato) were also available.

Fukui Station

If you want to buy souvenirs around Fukui Station, we recommend the "Fukufukukan" commercial facility in front of the station. After passing through the ticket gates and exiting the west exit, the large building on the left is Hapilin. Fukufuku-kan is located on the second floor.
Habutae mochi (rice cakes) are also a representative confectionery of Fukui Prefecture. Different stores sell different types of Habutae mochi, ranging from those with a simple flavor to those with flavors such as chocolate or green tea, or those with walnuts kneaded into the mochi. The Hokuriku editorial department recommends...
Matsuoka-ken's Habutae mochi! The silky texture is irresistible! It was also sold in pieces, so it is great for those who want to compare different types of mochi. Maeda Seika's "Nama Haniue Mochi" is also recommended for its unprecedented "melt-in-your-mouth" and "stretchy" texture.

Echizen Takefu station

Echizen Takefu Station is the only Shinkansen station on the Tsuruga extension. The station building features a cool appearance with silver gray Echizen tiles as accents. Next to the station is "Michi no Echizen Takefu" (Road Station Echizen Takefu), which opened in March of this year.
Located right in front of the station, Michi no Eki Echizen Takefu has a restaurant on the second floor, and after 5:00 p.m. the menu switches to an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) menu. It also has a tourist information center and BBQ facilities. In the sales area of such a roadside station...
Fresh fish and sashimi are sold here! This is the first time I have seen a roadside station lined with crabs...!
The "Yaki Saba" (grilled mackerel) is boldly grilled whole.
When we visited around 5:00 p.m., there was a shortage of the product, so it was a good idea to come early.
It also has a BBQ facility where you can grill and eat the seafood you buy. Sashimi, sushi, and other bento boxes are also available, so when the bullet train opens, you can buy a bento box here and eat it in the train.

Tsuruga station

Tsuruga Station is the westernmost stop on the Hokuriku Shinkansen line. In front of the station, new facilities such as "otta" with souvenir shops and restaurants where you can eat light meals and "Chienamiki" where you can calmly read books have appeared and are already bustling with people.â
The Hokuriku editorial department recommends the souvenir shop "Kazamiya" in such "otta". This store has very detailed and cute POP explaining the products!
With this POP, you can learn more about the products so you don't get lost in choosing souvenirs...! It's also good for people who don't like to talk to store clerks to make shopping easier...

How was it? There are many attractive souvenir shops around the Shinkansen station! When you visit Fukui Prefecture, why not buy Fukui's tastes and delicacies as a memento of your visit?
