NAMAHAGE dahlia, an original variety of dahlia from Akita Prefecture

The NAMAHAGE dahlia variety was jointly developed by Akita Prefecture and Koji Washizawa, the head of the Akita International Dahlia Garden.
Every year, the variety, which has not yet been released, is selected for distribution in the market by popular vote at the Tokyo Ota Market. As a result, dahlias that constantly meet the needs of the times are created, and this group of varieties has become a driving force in the dahlia industry. This year marks the 13th year of the popularity contest, and 39 varieties of "NAMAHAGE dahlias" have debuted to date.
The best time to see dahlias is from late September to October, but this year's heat has delayed their blooming a bit, and some flowers have yet to bloom. This year, the Akita International Dahlia Garden will be open only until Sunday, November 5, so why not visit the garden to find your favorite dahlia?
