It is enchanting! It will bloom! Illumination of the Meguro River

Illumination of cherry blossoms spreading along both banks of the Meguro River
The Osaki and Gotanda areas continue to develop as Tokyo's subcenters. This area is being developed not only as a new business hub, but also as a new residential area in the heart of the city. In the hope of nurturing everyone's attachment to and pride in the area, a new winter festival was born, making the most of the city's scenic resources. This is the "Meguro River Illumination for Everyone. Trees along the Meguro River are decorated with LED lights to create a tree-lined avenue of cherry trees that bloom and shine in winter.

Let's realize local production for local consumption of energy and make the winter cherry blossoms(R) bloom together!

Collection of used cooking oil
Restaurants donated their used oil.
About 400,000 tons of waste cooking oil is disposed of in Japan every year. About 200,000 tons of this is taken from restaurants and food-related companies and recycled into feed, soap, paint, and other products. However, much of the remaining 200,000 tons of waste cooking oil from households is disposed of unused, and some is discharged into rivers as domestic wastewater, contributing to environmental destruction. Biodiesel fuel" is a fuel that allows this waste cooking oil to be reused as energy. It is a fuel that can run diesel vehicles as an alternative to diesel fuel and has zero sulfur oxides, which cause air pollution. The amount of black smoke, which is said to cause respiratory organ damage, is less than half that of diesel fuel. It is truly an earth-friendly clean energy for the next generation. Biodiesel fuel is a new energy source that is attracting attention around the world.
Local production for local consumption of energy is realized!
The energy used to power the illumination is locally produced for local consumption. In the midst of the current trend that calls for power conservation, we have realized the lighting of the illumination using 100% in-house power generation. The energy used in place of electricity is used cooking oil that has been used at home or in restaurants. With the cooperation of local residents, used cooking oil is collected and upcycled into biodiesel fuel. Through this event, we aim to unite the community and realize a circular economy. The power of the local community is replaced by environmentally friendly renewable energy. We will light up the "Illumination for Everyone.

Upcycle Spot for Everyone] Please cooperate in the collection of waste cooking oil!

What is "upcycling"? Unlike conventional recycling, upcycling is the process of adding new value to discarded or unneeded items to make them more attractive and valuable without degrading their quality. The "Meguro River Illumination Executive Committee" has realized 100% local production for local consumption by upcycling used cooking oil into biodiesel fuel! In addition, this year, for the first time, an "Upcycle Spot for Everyone" will be set up where anyone can participate. By creating a collection point where local residents can bring in their own used cooking oil, we aim to strengthen ties with the local community, and by creating an opportunity for people to think of the project as "their own business," we hope to further deepen understanding of this initiative.
