Rikugien Garden - A garden based on the taste for Japanese poetry

Rikugien is a nationally designated special scenic beauty spot. Rikugien is a garden with a circular garden with a mountain and fountain garden based on Chinese classics and waka poems composed by Yoshiyasu Yanagisawa, a personal servant of Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, the fifth shogun of Japan. It is one of the most representative of the daimyo's gardens created in the Edo period (1603-1868), and became the villa of Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of Mitsubishi Corporation, in the Meiji period (1868-1912). The garden reflects the scenery of "Waka-no-ura," a scenic spot in Kishu (present-day Wakayama Prefecture) that was written about in the Manyoshu (Anthology of Myriad Leaves) and Kokin Wakashu (Anthology of Modern Japanese Poetry), as well as the surrounding scenic spots and landscapes associated with Chinese legend.

Rikugien is known as one of the best places in Tokyo to view the autumn leaves.
The "Rikugien Night Viewing of Garden Autumn Leaves" will be held from November 22 (Fri.) to December 4 (Wed.) only. The garden will be open at night, when it is normally closed to visitors, and visitors will be able to enjoy the illumination of the garden decorated with autumn leaves and the projection on the wall of the storehouse. There will also be photogenic photo spots throughout the park.
Light refreshments and souvenirs will also be available for purchase!
Please enjoy the beautiful illumination of the autumn leaves as well as the atmosphere of the garden.
