Beniakukun (quoted from the website)
What do you think of when you think of souvenirs from Saitama?
At JR East Travel Service Center Omiya, we often receive inquiries from customers about local specialties and souvenirs of Saitama.

So here we are! If you are wondering what to buy as a souvenir from Saitama, we would like to recommend "Beniakukun" from
Kurazukuri Honpo!

Long-established confectionery shop in Koedo Kawagoe, Kawagoe Kasho Kurazukuri Honpo

Kurazukuri Honpo was founded in 1887 and celebrates 136 years this year. Currently, there are 40 stores in Saitama Prefecture and one store at the Haneda Airport Garden, and it is a wagashi shop known to all residents of Saitama Prefecture. The "Beniakukan" introduced here has been featured on TV and other media, and has won various awards, making it a favorite among young and old alike. This time, we visited the Lumine 2 Omiya store to interview them about "Beniakun!

Beniakukun" made with the finest ingredients

Beni-Aka (quoted from the website)
Beniakukun" is a sweet potato made from sweet potato. The best sweet potatoes are selected from a variety of sweet potatoes discovered in Saitama called "Beni-Aka" and other domestic sweet potatoes of high quality with strong sweetness and low fiber content.
The shelf life is about 7 days, but we do not use preservatives and prioritize flavor over shelf life. The company's desire is to make sure that customers enjoy the best tasting products.
They can be stored at room temperature and are easy to take with you, making them perfect for souvenirs.

Why sweet potatoes at a Japanese confectionery?

Customers are becoming more and more reluctant to eat Japanese sweets and anko (red bean paste), and this may drive them away.
That is why we developed an easy-to-handle "sweet potato" using sweet potatoes.
The special thing is that we use white bean paste. The taste is unique to a Japanese confectionery shop♪

How do you recommend eating it?

We asked the manager about the recommended way to eat it.
"If you put the "Beniakun" out on a plate and warm it in the microwave for 30 seconds, you can enjoy the crunchy texture of the sweet potato. It goes well with green tea, but we recommend it with coffee because you can feel the richness of the butter!" he said.
So, I actually tried it!
It has a strong buttery aroma and a little bit of a cake-like atmosphere. Also, the sweetness of the white bean paste made it clear that the sweet potato was made by a Japanese sweets shop! It was delicious!
The packaging is also tied with string, which is very cute and will surely be appreciated as a souvenir!

Marron Dorayaki" only available in autumn and winter

Marron Dorayaki (quoted from the website)

In addition to "Beniakukan," Kurazukuri Honpo offers a variety of other products.
Recommended for this fall is the "Marron Dorayaki," a product limited to fall and winter.
The Mont Blanc-style dorayaki made with Italian marrons is rich in chestnut flavor, and the first bite of the dorayaki will spread the flavor of chestnuts in your mouth.
This is the perfect product to experience the taste of autumn. We hope you will try it with this product as well.

Last but not least...

The manager of the Lumine 2 Omiya store had this to say.
The LUMINE 2 Omiya store is close to the Shinkansen ticket gates, so you can board the train immediately after buying. So we hope that tourists with large luggage or those in a hurry will come to buy their items."

The busiest times to visit
are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays before weekends and holidays.
On weekdays, many people buy after work in the evening.

The products are popular with locals and tourists alike, and at the Kawagoe store, to the surprise of many, they are popular with foreign tourists as well!
Kurazukuri Honpo's "Beniakukan" is loved by men and women of all ages and regardless of national borders.
