Fukuroda Falls, one of Japan's famous waterfalls, is located in the town of Oshiko in northern Ibaraki Prefecture. When Saigyo Hoshi visited the area, he once praised the waterfall, saying, "You have to come here once in each of the four seasons to experience the true beauty of the waterfall. In spring, you can enjoy the waterfall and the green of new buds; in summer, the water splashes in the sunlight; and in autumn, you can see the colorful autumn leaves and the landscape painting. In winter, the illuminated "Daiko Raijin - Daigo Light" is held! This year, the Ibaraki Destination Campaign, an Ibaraki tourism campaign, is being implemented, so the festival is even more upgraded than in previous years! 2023 Daiko Raijin - Daigo Light

The "2023 Ogo Raijin - Daigo Light" is a winter festival in Ogo Town that will be held every day from October 1, 2023 (Sunday) to January 31, 2024 (Wednesday). Visitors can enjoy the illumination of Fukuroda Falls and the "tunnel of light" decorated with light decorations in the tunnel to the viewing platform. Normally, Fukuroda Falls can only be seen until sunset, but during this period, it can be seen even after sunset.

Colorful light objects "Tunnel of Light

The "Tunnel of Light" is held inside the viewing tunnel leading to Fukuroda Falls. The tunnel is lit up in rainbow colors with LED lights, and the moving performance expresses the movement of an embryo.

The area around the "Lover's Sanctuary" monument, featuring the "mandarin duck," the bird of Oshiko Town, is also decorated with infinity lights and prismatic lights for this limited time only! You can take a commemorative photo with a different atmosphere.

The main exhibit, "∞ -Infinity-" is an objet d'art created with mirrors and lights. When you look into it, you will see a futuristic kaleidoscope that goes on forever. It also reacts to the sounds of its surroundings and shows various expressions.

The light tunnel can be enjoyed even before sunset, so you can enjoy it in the light of day.

The viewing tunnel can be seen from the Takimoto (Fukuroda Falls) bus stop, the last stop on the Ibaraki Kotsu Bus, along a street lined with souvenir shops. There is a parking lot in the area, but please note that it gets very crowded during the fall foliage and ice fall seasons.

After passing through the tunnel of light, you will see Fukuroda Falls. The majestic flow of the waterfall is like a solemn ink painting floating in the air. A mysterious space created by nature and light unfolds. The sight of the 120-meter-high, 73-meter-wide Fukuroda Falls illuminated by lights is a beautiful sight to behold. It has a different atmosphere from the waterfalls that can be seen during the daytime.

In the fall season, visitors can enjoy the bright red maple leaves around the falls, and in the winter (usually around late December), they can see the ice fall, a phenomenon in which the waterfall freezes due to the drop in temperature, providing two different ways to enjoy the falls before and after the lighting. The condition of the icefall depends on the weather and temperature, but if the timing is right, you may be able to enjoy the illumination of the frozen waterfall.
