New spot "Ura-Kusatsu, Jizo" in Kusatsu Onsen
This fall, why not visit one of Japan's representative hot spring resorts, Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma Prefecture?
Kusatsu Onsen boasts the largest natural hot spring discharge in Japan, and in the hot spring ranking from the Edo period to the Meiji period, Kusatsu in the east has maintained the highest ranking (Ozeki) along with Arima Onsen in the west.
Kusatsu Onsen is still crowded with tourists, but it continues to evolve day by day, centering on the symbolic Yubatake hot springs.
In this first of three installments of our "New Kusatsu and Kusatsu in Autumn Foliage" series, we will introduce you to the latest popular spot, "Ura-Kusatsu," about five minutes from Yubatake.

It takes about 5 minutes from Yubatake to a small path.
The Jizo district around the public bathhouse "Jizo no Yu" will be redeveloped in 2021, creating a new tourist attraction called "Ura Kusatsu.
In contrast to the bustle of the Yubatake area, the time here is leisurely and relaxed.

The "Ura-Kusatsu" area is centered around a small hall called "Jizo-do," a popular public bathhouse "Jizo no Yu" where private baths are available by reservation only, a relaxing footbath, a highly effective sterilizing bath called "Tearai-no-yu," and a unique bathhouse called "Kusatsu Onsen no Yu" where you can enjoy the hot water of Kusatsu Onsen on your face. There is also a face bath where visitors can bathe their faces in the steam of Kusatsu Onsen, which is said to be effective in keeping the skin warm and moist.
Visitors can enjoy the footbath, hand-washing bath, and face bath in their clothes, so feel free to enjoy Kusatsu's hot spring water, one of the best in Japan!
On the hill next to Jizo no Yu, there is a manga hall with about 10,000 manga books, including works by manga artists associated with Kusatsu Onsen, and an open, stylish cafe surrounded by the fragrance of wood, providing the perfect space for a relaxing break.
It is also a short walk from the popular Kusatsu Onsen inn "Kin Midori," a traditional Japanese inn.
Please enjoy a different kind of "Ura-Kusatsu" experience from the Kusatsu Onsen you are used to!

Famous hot spring under the heaven! Kusatsu Onsen inn "Kin Midori, the inn of old-fashioned heart".
This time, we will introduce you to the inn in such Kusatsu Onsen, "Kokushin no Yado Kin Midori".

KINMIDORI is a long-established Japanese-style inn founded in 1902, and has a history of cherishing the "old-fashioned spirit" of the good old days.
It is conveniently located about a 3-minute walk from Yubatake, the symbol of Kusatsu, and about a 2-minute walk from Ura-Kusatsu, a new tourist spot in Kusatsu, yet its quiet atmosphere is popular among our guests♪.
The hot spring at Kin Midori offers two different sources of hot spring water: the Yubatake source in the indoor bath and the Bandai-ko source in the open-air bath! Both the Yubata-source and Bandai-ko-source are highly acidic. Soaking in the hot water will warm your body from the core. The private open-air baths located in a separate building (charged) are also very popular.

The rooms, mainly Japanese-style rooms, have a calm atmosphere that makes you feel nostalgic and relaxed.
After taking a rest in the hot spring or in your room, we recommend changing into a yukata of your choice and taking a stroll through the bustling hot spring resort town!
For dinner, enjoy a kaiseki-zen meal carefully prepared with seasonal ingredients.
