What do you think of when you hear "Shinshu's specialty"? Nozawana? Oyaki? but here I would like to introduce you to "Sanzokuyaki"! Sanzokuyaki is the soul food of Matsumoto and Shiojiri cities in Nagano Prefecture. It is made by seasoning chicken with garlic-flavored sauce, coating it with potato starch, and deep frying it until crispy.
But, isn't that deep-fried chicken...? No, it is not! It is not just fried food!
Sanzoku-yaki is characterized by the bold frying of a whole piece of meat, and its volume is breathtaking! It is well seasoned, and its savory aroma whets the appetite. The surface is crispy, while the inside is soft and juicy♪
Cabbage is a common accompaniment, and it is great both as a hearty meal with rice and as an accompaniment to alcoholic beverages!
The portions are generous, so be sure to visit with an empty stomach!
