One of the popular sightseeing spots in Matsushima, Entsuji Temple is known as a temple of the Myojinshinji school of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism (Rinzai Shu Myojinshinji ha). The temple was built and opened as the mausoleum of Mitsumune, the grandson of Date Masamune. The Enshu Garden within the temple grounds is said to be the work of Enshu Kobori, a garden designer who symbolized Japan in the Edo period. The best time to view the autumn leaves is usually from early November to mid-November. This year's light-up will be held again and is a very popular spot!
