Access to Minakami Onsen Recommended: SL!
In Gunma Prefecture, a hot spring paradise, there are many sightseeing spots where you can enjoy both hot springs and autumn leaves.
Tanigawa-dake in Minakami Town is said to be at its best around mid-October every year. However, the best time to view the leaves changes slightly every year.

The entrance to Mizukami Onsen is at Jomo Kogen Station on the Shinkansen bullet train line and at Mizukami Station on the JR Joetsu Line.
Jomo Kogen Station is approximately one hour from Tokyo! In front of the station, there are buses bound for Mizukami Station and a station rent-a-car office, so access is easy.
The SL is the best way to get between Takasaki and Mizukami, and it takes about 2 hours to travel from Takasaki to Mizukami, instead of the usual 70 minutes!

SL Retro Gunma Mizukami" and "SL Gunma Minakami" run mainly on weekends.
Two trains, D51-498 and C61-20, are in operation between Takasaki and Mizukami. Please check the website of JR Takasaki branch office for operation status and other information.
