The Takayama Autumn Festival is held every year on October 9-10. The autumn Takayama Festival is an annual festival of "Sakurayama Hachimangu", a shrine located in the northern part of Takayama City. Therefore, it is more familiar to the locals to call it the "Hachiman Festival.

Since the festival is held just before the harvest season, it has developed as a festival to pray for a bountiful harvest, a festival of thanksgiving for the harvest, and as a festival for the townspeople. The development of the festival began when wealthy merchants, known as "maseru" (masters), provided money for the renovation of yatai and had craftsmen who were descended from Hida masters compete with each other, resulting in the evolution from the Edo style yatai of the past to the elegant Kyoto style yatai.

A total of eleven yatai make an appearance at the festival, and these yatai are maintained and managed by the "yataigumi. There are three yatai-gumi in a town, and in some cases, only one yatai-gumi in several towns.

The spirit of the Hida people and their strong religious beliefs may be the reason for the gorgeous and gorgeous floats.

This year's autumn Takayama Festival is not only a chance to see the yatai, but also to learn about the many skills and Hida people that support the festival.
