A writer who works in Kinshicho recommends this coffee shop, "Private Coffee Elementary School. I ordered a rare "Kinshi Blend" without a second thought.

The unique name of the store is also intriguing, isn't it? As the name "Private Coffee Elementary School" suggests, there are two teachers, one in charge of pastries and the other in charge of bread, and special pastries and bread are displayed in a glass case in the store only on the days when each teacher is in charge of a particular item. We would like to introduce you to the charm of the private coffee elementary school, where you can enjoy different kinds of coffee and different contents on different days.
Inside the store

Private Coffee Elementary School" located in the back alley of Kinshicho

About a 5-minute walk from the north exit of Kinshicho Station. It was tucked away at the end of a back alley. It has a stylish appearance with a simple and stylish sign.

Private Coffee Elementary School had relocated and opened from Daikanyama to Kinshicho, and this July marks exactly one year since its opening. The owner, who was a teacher in Tokyo, first worked at an elementary school here in Sumida-ku when he was a teacher, so the relocation was to an area that holds a special place in his heart.

Coffee with our specialties

As soon as you enter the entrance, you place your order at the counter in front of you. The main item on the menu is coffee, which is also in the name of the store. All coffees served at the private coffee elementary school are "specialty coffees. Specialty coffee simply means high-quality coffee, and is one of the terms used to categorize coffee. It is coffee that has passed the strict screening standards of the Specialty Coffee Association of Japan. It is evaluated based on the balance of flavors such as the aroma rising from the extracted coffee, the original acidity of the coffee bean, the texture of the coffee in the mouth, and the lingering taste after drinking.
Various coffee menus
At Private Coffee Elementary School, you can enjoy a cup of coffee carefully hand-dripped one by one or a special cup brewed by an espresso machine. The coffee menu includes the slightly shallow roasted "Coffee Elementary Blend" and the deep roasted "Kinshi Blend. I was attracted by the term "Kinshi Blend" and ordered an iced coffee of Kinshi Blend. The coffee's distinctive bitterness and deep richness go well with iced coffee! Coffee beans are also available for sale, so it is recommended as a souvenir!

Sandwiches and pound cakes in the glass case

Next to the counter are sandwiches and pound cakes that can be ordered today. There is a workshop in the store where you can make bread and pastries, and several times a month the pastry and bread staffs put their skills to work, and on some days you can enjoy menu items that are not included in the regular menu.

Regular menu "Sandwich with homemade ham

A popular menu item that has been available since the store's establishment in Daikanyama is a sandwich of slow-cooked low-temperature ham sandwiched between two slices of campagne. The thick ham is very tasty. The mustard is a nice accent, and the fermented butter, which for a moment I thought was a light cheese, makes the bread and ham feel as one.

The size of the bread was just enough to fit in one hand and I thought it might not be enough for lunch, but I was very satisfied with just one piece as I am a small eater because it was full of filling.

Other items included "Coffee Ko's An Butter Sandwich," made with red beans and anko (sweet bean paste) in the store, "Matcha Bavarois," made with matcha from Satén, a Japanese tea stand in Nishiogikubo, and "Earl Grey and Orange Peel Pound Cake" using black tea, which is an unexpected accompaniment to coffee, as well as chocolate cake, "Earl Grey and Orange Peel Pound Cake. There are a variety of pound cakes, from chocolate to fruit, including "Matcha Bavarois," which is made with luxurious green tea and has a rich, smooth, and elastic texture. There are so many varieties that you will want to try them all.

Collaboration with exhibiting artists and open staff meeting!

Private Coffee Elementary School also holds other exciting events on an irregular basis. In addition to exhibiting artists' works inside the store, these events bring you closer to their works, such as serving an an-butter sandwich on a special plate made by the artists when you eat in.

In addition, the store holds regular meetings where all the staff (store staff), including the owner, the pastry staff, and the bread staff, gather to learn about food. They believe that it would be a waste to keep this knowledge closed, so they have recently created an opportunity to invite a sommelier once every two months to learn about food pairing while enjoying pastries and wine or bread and wine.
