The Kurobe Dam, built in the midst of the magnificent nature of Kurobe, is one of the largest dams in Japan, and was called the "Great Work of the Century" or "Great Project of the Century" because of its large scale and extremely difficult construction. This time, we visited the Kurobe Dam to see its famous "sightseeing water discharge," and we would like to tell you about its charms!

Kurobe Dam surrounded by great nature

On this day, we took the cable car from Tateyama Station, the entrance to the Toyama Prefecture side, to "Kurobeko Station," the nearest station to the Kurobe Dam! From there, we walked for about 5 minutes. After passing through a tunnel, you will be greeted by the Kurobe Dam, which is surrounded by nature!

Finding the Kurobe Dam is easy, as there is a sign clearly placed in the center of the dam! All you have to do is to look into it while standing tall...but the sightseeing water discharge of the "Kurobe Dam," which is said to be the great project of the century, spurts out more than 10 tons of water per second from the highest point in Japan! Take your time and visit without hesitation!

Be prepared! Here we go! When I peeked in... I was overwhelmed by the power of the spray and sound created by the water discharge with its steep drop-off. When taking pictures, be careful not to drop your smartphone or camera.
Powerful sightseeing water discharge

Kurobe Dam can be enjoyed from the dam embankment

One of the features of the Kurobe Dam is that the dam embankment is 492 meters long on both sides. It is recommended to photograph the beautiful arch of Kurobe Dam and the sightseeing water discharge from the embankment, including the surrounding mountains, as a set!
