Japan's oldest fishing method "Mullet waiting watchtower

Do you know a fish called mullet?

I would like to introduce Japan's oldest and unique fishing method in Anamizu Town, Ishikawa Prefecture. Mullet? Some of you may be thinking, "Mullet? Mullet, which are in season from October to January, swim in schools. The fishing method is to watch the schools all day long from the top of a yagura built in the sea and haul in the mullet in a net that has been set. It is a primitive way of fishing.

It looks just like a "taikobo"!

The yagura is quite large when you look at it up close, and there seems to be enough room for an adult to sit down, but to wait all day alone in this vast sea for mullet to come to you, you must be a big fish hunter...and if you are, you are sure to get a big one (laughs)!

Drive to "Nakai Fureai Park"!

Such a primitive yagura can now be seen as a sightseeing spot from "Nakai Fureai Park," which is equipped with a parking lot and restrooms (note: no actual fishing!). ). As a rest stop on your drive, it is also a place where you can take a break while enjoying the view of the calm Anamizu Bay as well as the yagura. When driving to Okunoto, you may want to take a break to see this view.
