A place of training and learning

A temple of learning where men of letters deepened their studies
Founded in 1824 by Zeku Gyoja, this is a temple of the Pure Land sect of Buddhism, where he and Jakudo Gyoja devoted themselves to ascetic practice. The temple taught the Dharma to children, taught reading and writing, and eventually developed into the "Kuromori Gakko," a school of learning that has produced many talented people from the Tsugaru area.

The scenery of the precincts changes with the seasons

Mountains colored with fresh green
Kuromoriyama Josenji Temple is famous for its irises and fireflies in summer and autumn leaves in fall, but it is also a very relaxing place to visit during the season of fresh greenery, when the lush green of the mountains and trees is reflected in the scenery. Visitors can fully enjoy nature with all their senses, looking at the colors of the trees, listening to the sound of insects in the silence, and experiencing the occasional breeze with their whole bodies.

Take a break at the tea house that stands in the precincts of the temple

Enjoying coffee and freshly fried donuts
There is a tea house called Shofu-tei on the side of the temple grounds. It is recommended as a place to take a break after a long day of sightseeing. Although it is a tea house, the coffee and doughnuts are very popular, especially the freshly fried doughnuts, which are rare in this area, and have an exquisite texture and gentle flavor!
