History of the Suwa Lake Festival Fireworks Display

The Suwa Lake Festival Lake Fireworks Festival began in 1949 (Showa 24), when the first "Noryo Suwa Lake Fireworks Festival" was held on Suwa Lake for the first time on August 15 in the hope that citizens would have bright hopes and recover as soon as possible amid the chaos after the end of the war. The 71st Suwa Lake Fireworks Festival, held in 2019, is one of the most popular fireworks festivals in Japan.
From 2020 to 2022, the Suwa Lake Fireworks Festival had to be cancelled or dispersed due to the spread of the new coronavirus, but last year it was held normally for the long-awaited event. 2024 will continue to be a regular event.

The biggest highlight of the Suwa Lake Festival Lake Fireworks Display is the "Water Starmine"!

The main attraction of the Suwa Lake Festival Lake Fireworks Display is the dynamic "Water Starmine" that shakes the surface of the lake. It draws a beautiful semicircle on Suwa Lake. The sparkling fireworks on the surface of the lake and in the night sky are beautiful and fascinating to watch. The fireworks are displayed from a launching pad set up on the lake. The Suwa Lake Festival Lake Fireworks Display also boasts an overwhelming sense of scale! The fireworks that are shot off from a launching pad on the lake color the night sky in the summer.
The best way to experience the "Lake Suwa Fireworks" is to purchase a ticket for a seat at the pier! Please check the official website for details, which is on sale to the general public on the web.

Check the access method in advance.

Access to the fireworks display is recommended by train. If you come by train, it is usually about a 10-minute walk from JR Kamisuwa Station to the Suwa Lakeside, the venue of the fireworks display. Extra trains will be running on the day of the event, so we recommend coming by train. Please note that the venue and surrounding roads will be very crowded on the day of the fireworks display, and it will take longer than usual to walk to the lakeside, so please allow plenty of time for your visit. In addition, there are 12 temporary parking lots with approximately 3,000 parking spaces (for a fee) for the fireworks display. Please make sure to make a reservation in advance.
