What is the Hachinohe Sanja Grand Festival?
It is said that the Hachinohe Sanja Grand Festival began when the people of Hachinohe, who had suffered from a bad harvest in the past, set up a procession through the city to pray for a recovery in the weather and a good harvest.
Schedule and Highlights
July 31: eve of the festival/August 4: night of the festival
On the eve of the festival and the night after the festival, the floats are not in operation, but are on display all together, and each group performs its own musical performance. It is recommended to enjoy the festival while walking slowly. Enjoy the atmosphere of the festival and the glittering floats!
August 1: Odori (Street) / August 3: Okaeri (Return)
August 2: Mid-day
The second attraction is the nighttime operation of the floats. The atmosphere is completely different from that of the daytime, and the illuminated floats and the moving mechanisms under the lights are a must-see! You can watch the floats from the roadside, but please be aware of the crowds as many people come to see the floats shining brightly on a summer night. Paid seating is also recommended.
On the middle day of the festival, the floats will be judged and an awards ceremony will be held on the stage in front of the Hachinohe City Hall.
Gorgeous and gorgeous! Interesting floats with various tricks
There are four basic types of floats for the Hachinohe Sanja Grand Festival, all of which are based on Kabuki or folk tales. It is interesting to look at the different types of floats with an eye to their differences. In addition, the floats are equipped with a variety of tricks. The floats can be viewed with the tricks deployed at the eve of the festival and at the night of the festival, so please pay attention to the details.
