After exiting the east exit of Omiya Station and walking for about 20 minutes, you will see the approach to Hikawa Shrine.
The approach stretches 2 km north to south from Nakasendo, and is lined on both sides with beautiful zelkova trees. On the day of the interview, the sun was shining brightly, but the sunlight filtering through the trees was pleasant.

Hikawa Dango-ya" is a long-established dango shop along the approach to Hikawa Shrine.
On the left side of the entrance are dango and fried manjuu dumplings to take home, making you want to stop by and eat your way through.
Passing through the noren, you will find yourself in a calm space with a view of trees through the window and the sound of wind chimes. With table seating and tatami room seating, parents and children or couples can relax and enjoy their meal.

The sourness of the tomatoes matched with the sweetness of the syrup was very refreshing and delicious! It also contains tomato pulp.
The syrup is handmade from fresh tomatoes.
The first bite was an elegant sweet matcha flavor that spread in my mouth. As you continue eating, you will find plenty of azuki beans, which go perfectly with the matcha-flavored ice!

Special natural ice ordered from Shinshu

The restaurant used to use ice from an ice machine, but 25 years ago, due to the owner's persistence, it began using natural ice from Shinshu.
The ice is fluffy and melts easily in your mouth. Even if you shovel it down on a hot day, you will not get a headache!

The owner's recommendation of "tomatoes" was finally chosen after trial and error from the following three perspectives:

The main course of the day was Hikawa dango (dumplings) and deep-fried manjuu (steamed buns). There are many kinds of meals such as kishimen, miso oden, and Hikawa zenzai. You can't enjoy it all in one visit, so you will want to visit again and again!

Overall appearance

It was lunchtime on a weekday when we visited the cafe, but there was a constant flow of customers, both those using the cafe and those who wanted to take home take-out.
