RIBs are boats used by navies, police forces, rescuers and explorers around the world! They are safe boats that can operate at high speed even in rough weather due to their unsinkable structure, and are also used for whale watching and Arctic cruises. Adventure tours of power spots and caves are offered on this RIB at Lake Towada.

Highlights of the Lake Towada RIB Tour

Glistening water "Itomuka Cove

Itumuka Cove is located near the border between Akita and Aomori prefectures on Lake Towada. Itumuka means "shining water" in the Ainu language, and during the day the water is clear blue, making it possible to observe the fish in the water from a boat. When the sun is shining, the water looks blue and mysterious. The cove at Bitomuka is located in a special protected area within the Towada-Hachimantai National Nature Park, so it is not possible to walk there from the land.

If you are lucky, you will see not only underwater creatures but also flying squirrels, bears, and antelopes on land. You may be able to see ospreys and golden eagles in the sky above!

Statue of the legend of Jindai-gaura

The rock was discovered in "Jindai-gaura," a special protected area on the Mikura Peninsula of Lake Towada, where a cliff collapse occurred as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. When it was first discovered, the shape of the rock looked like "Christ," and so it is sometimes called the "legendary Christ figure. This mysterious stone Buddha appears only during the drought season. In fact, various mysteries remain at Lake Towada, including mysterious chapels and caves. It would be interesting to hear various stories from the guides...!

Safe points of interest

As a boat tour is a powerful and adventurous experience, you may have many safety concerns when participating. Here are four points to ensure your safety.
Boarding the RIB

Hard to get wet

Compared to regular boats, it is less likely to get wet, so it is possible to participate in casual clothes. Also, helmets with shields and ponchos are available for rent for rainy days.
Lake Towada is a mountain lake at 400 meters above sea level, so it can feel chilly even in summer. Warm clothing is recommended.

Less likely to get seasick

Since the boat runs on the lake, it is less bumpy than boats running on the ocean or rivers, and it is less likely to cause seasickness.

Enjoyable for the whole family

Except in strong winds, children as young as one year old can board the boat. The whole family can participate.

Cameras and binoculars are allowed.

The lake is crystal clear and you can see a variety of fish depending on the season, so be sure to take pictures of the beautiful scenery.
Please be careful not to drop the boat or get it wet.
