Would you like to be healed by pictures of wild flowers? Yasuo Toyama Wild Flower Museum
- Niigata
- Experience Gifu
The exhibition is changing with the change of flowers.
More than 80 original paintings of wildflowers are always on display alongside the actual flowers that served as models for his works.
The "Wild Flower Gallery" has an exhibition style that allows visitors to view the works up close, even at waist height, so that visitors in wheelchairs can view the works from a natural vantage point.
Flowers of the four seasons in Minamiuonuma are depicted!
The artist, Yasuo Toyama, was born in Fukagawa, Tokyo.
Since 1945, he grew up in Urasa, Niigata Prefecture, and currently resides in Minamiuonuma City (formerly Shiozawa Town), Niigata Prefecture.
Since 1990, he has held solo exhibitions at numerous locations, including Niigata Isetan, Daishi Bank Head Office Lobby, Omotesando Niigata-kan Nespace, and Aomi-machi Kirara!
The "Nonohana-kan" gallery introduced here was established on April 27, 2002, in an old private house in the former Shiozawamachi, which has been restored.
The flowers and berries are mainly plants that grow in the mountains of the Minamiuonuma area, and are depicted as they are in their natural state, with no insect damage or withered leaves.
Sometimes Toyama himself goes into the mountains to collect them, and sometimes local residents bring them to him.
So it is thanks to the cooperation of many people that he is able to draw actual flowers and exhibit them along with his artwork.
And they draw them with mechanical pencils and watercolors.
The paints are not special ones, but those watercolors that I am sure you have used before!
