2024 Fairy Tale Village Takigami Shiba-zakura Festival" will be held from Tuesday, May 7 to Friday, May 31, 2024.

Takigami Town, located in the Okhotsk area in eastern Hokkaido, was declared in full bloom on Wednesday, May 1, and the "Fairy Tale Village Takinoe Shiba-zakura Festival" began. Shiba-zakura (moss pink) in Takigami Park covers an area of about 10 hectares. It was first planted at the entrance of the park in 1957 with a seedling the size of a tangerine box. Since then, the people of Takigami Town have carefully nurtured the flowers, which now cover the entire park and are said to be the largest of their kind in Japan. The Fairy Tale Village Takigami Shiba-zakura Festival, which is crowded with tourists and locals every day, is introduced here!

Hours: 8:00 - 18:00 (last admission by 17:00)

They are lovely little flowers when viewed up close. The petals are usually five, but some flowers have four to seven petals, and it is said that finding one will bring good luck. The language of flowers is "hope," "sincere love," and so on, which is fitting for the small but vigorous Shiba-zakura, which has many blossoms.

On fine days, you can enjoy a stroll amidst the fragrance of shiba-zakura (moss phlox) and the mountains of the Daisetsu mountain range in the distance. Shiba-zakura Takigami Park is wheelchair accessible with ramps in some areas. It is said that the best time to see shiba-zakura (moss pinks) is around mid-May each year, but this depends on the weather that year, so do not miss it! The blooming status is constantly updated on the Takigami Town website, so we recommend that you check it out before visiting.
