Gero Onsen is one of the three most famous hot springs in Japan, along with Arima Onsen and Kusatsu Onsen. Gero Onsen is often decorated with frog motifs in reference to the reading of its name and the sound of the frog's cry, "gerogero," but the long-established ryokan "Suimeikan" built by the Hida River also has very cute and tasty frog sweets!
Suimeikan's lobby lounge, "Evian," is a relaxing space where you can take a break while enjoying the view of the Japanese garden with its open windows, flowing waterfalls, and carp and ducks playing happily. Here you can enjoy a variety of sweets and light meals made with local ingredients. The pastry chef's special cakes, which are lined up in the showcase and change daily, all look delicious, but the most eye-catching item on the menu is the matcha tiramisu.

Now Bathing - Green Tea Tiramisu

The name of the menu item is "Tadakimasu Tadakimasu - Matcha Tiramisu" (I'm Bathing Now). This dish uses Kyoto matcha (Kamibetsugi), and the mascarpone mousse and joconde dough soaked in matcha syrup are a perfect match. The matcha tea tiramisu in the Masu is made to look like a bath, and the visual is irresistible, as if a frog is taking a bath. The frog's expression seems to come in various patterns, and this time it was a bit playful! There are sometimes limited time versions available, so if you are interested, please check the official website or SNS. Another nice point is that you can take home a Masu with the Suimeikan logo on it. How about making it a memento of your trip?

Evian also offers the "skin-beauty sweets" introduced previously. If you want to become beautiful from the inside after soaking in the beauty of Gero Onsen's hot spring water, be sure to check this out as well!
