Fukui Tsuruga: A theme park of fish⁉「Sakana Machi of the Sea of Japan

  • Fukui
  • Sightseeing
The "Nihonkai Sakana Machi" has souvenir shops, restaurants, and fish caught in Tsuruga Port and the surrounding waters. It is a large market that attracts many tourists from inside and outside of the prefecture. It is a very lively market, and as you walk around, you may be asked, "Would you like to try a sample? I recommend this one today! It is a very lively market.

Come to eat Kaisen-don (seafood rice bowl)!

There are many seafood restaurants in the area, so I had a hard time deciding which one to go to, but this time I was attracted by the "Hokuriku samadai don" and "choose your own seafood bowl," so I went to Yotteya, a fresh seasoned restaurant.
Prices are as of February 15, 2023. Prices are subject to change.

You can taste all of Hokuriku's "delicious" fish while in Fukui!

As the name suggests, the "Hokuriku Samadai Don" is a bowl of rice topped with a variety of seafood from the Hokuriku region. However, on this particular day, they were unable to catch nodoguro (throat blackfish), so they had to replace it with otoro (fatty tuna).... Unfortunately, the restaurant uses only the freshest local products, so there was nothing we could do about it. Next time..! It is a pity that we could not try the throat blackfish, but all the fish, including the otoro, were fatty and very tasty.
Order a small portion of rice!
In fact, it took me quite a bit of "How's the tasting? I called out to many restaurants and asked them to let me try their fish. I was already full.... I ordered a small amount of rice, and they were happy to oblige.

You can also choose from a variety of kaisendon!

Prices are as of February 15, 2023. Prices are subject to change.
You can choose from one type of neta (fish) to a bowl of rice. The Hokuriku editorial staff ordered a bowl of "Wakasa sea bream.
The meat is beautiful..!
The sea bream from Tsuruga is different from other sea bream, even though it has a light white flesh! The Sea of Japan is often rough in the winter, and because the fish grows up in such a harsh environment, its flesh is firm, fatty, and delicious!

Enjoy negotiating the price!

Since it is a market, you can enjoy shopping and talking with the shopkeepers, asking "How much would it be if I buy this one and this one together? The best part of the market is shopping while enjoying conversation with the shopkeepers. I feel that Nihonkai Sakana Machi is one of the friendliest markets in Hokuriku. How do you eat it? and other questions such as how to cook and preserve the fish.
