The ruins of Hekirichi Camp of the Matsumae Domain is Japan's first Western-style star-shaped castle, built by the Matsumae Domain to strengthen the defense of the Ezo region following the opening of the port of Hakodate. It is now a designated national historic site, and remains such as earthen mounds and empty moats can be seen. The approximately 800-meter-long cherry blossom tunnel leading from the road to the ruins of the Matsumae Clan's Togirichi Camp is a must-see.
