Ashikaga Flower Park in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, which is famous as a popular tourist spot and has been covered by many media, will hold the "Fuji no Hanamonogatari - Big Wisteria Festival 2023" from April 15 (Saturday) to May 21 (Sunday), 2023. What is Fujinohana Monogatari?

Ashikaga Flower Park is home to more than 350 wisteria trees, including 160 year old, 1,000 m2 spreading large wisteria trees, large double-flowered wisteria trees, which are rare in the world, 80-meter long white wisteria tunnel, kibana wisteria, and screen-shaped wisteria, which are lit up at night and reflected on a pond in a water mirror, and are breathtakingly beautiful! It attracts many visitors.

The wisteria blooms from mid-April to mid-May and for a month, just like a picture scroll, hence the name "Fujinohana Monogatari" (the tale of wisteria flowers). Wisteria is said to be one of Japan's oldest flowering trees, and the month-long period during which it is in full bloom is well worth a visit.

What is Ashikaga Flower Park?

Ootofuji were grown at Hayakawa Farm, which was established in 1968 in Horigome-cho, Ashikaga City. However, due to urban development, it was relocated to its current location in 1997 (Hasama-cho, Ashikaga City) and opened as Ashikaga Flower Park.

The symbol of the park, the giant wisteria was transplanted by Ms. Konami Tsukamoto, the first female tree surgeon in Japan. The transplantation of a giant wisteria (130 years old at the time) was unprecedented, and the project attracted nationwide attention as a transplant project that transcended common sense, becoming the first successful example in Japan.

The four large wisteria trees (three Noda kujaku wisteria and one double black dragon wisteria) and the 80-meter-long white wisteria tunnel introduced here are designated as natural treasures of Tochigi Prefecture.
