There is a monument in Somei Yoshino Cherry Blossom Memorial Park, a 1-minute walk from Komagome Station on the JR Yamanote Line, which is the birthplace of Yoshino cherry blossoms.
Somei Yoshino" was first sold about 100 years ago by a Komagome gardener from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period (1868-1912), and it is said that he named the cherry tree Somei, a place name (Komagome's main character), to distinguish it from the mountain cherry trees of Yoshinoyama in Nara.
From this, there are many facilities named "Somei," such as Somei Bridge and Somei Street, in the area around Komagome Station.
