What we want to convey is "warmth of human spirit" even though times have changed.

There are many winter events in Hokkaido, and the Otaru Snow Light Path is one of the most popular winter events in Hokkaido.
The "Otaru Snow Light Path" is an event in which many people can participate, including neighborhood associations, citizen volunteers, and overseas volunteers. In addition to volunteers, people who spread candlelight throughout the city at their homes, workplaces, neighborhood associations, etc. are called "Akari-jin".
When you hear the name "Otaru Snow Light Path," you may remember Sei Ito's masterpiece "Snow Light Path. That is right! It is named after Sei Ito's masterpiece "Yukimirino-no-michi. The novelist Sei Ito grew up in Otaru, and one of his seniors was Takiji Kobayashi, famous for his novel "The Crab Ship. There must be something about Otaru that attracts writers.
Now, let's go to the Otaru Snow Light Path.
You can feel the warmth of handmade products.
Snow candles are softly lit in the snow.

There are a total of five venues for the Otaru Snow Light Path.

At the canal site A, about 200 "floating ball candles" can be seen.

Canal Venue A is the area from Asakusa Bridge to Chuo Bridge, and Canal Venue B is the area from Chuo Bridge to Ryugu Bridge. The concept of Canal Venue A is "forest of canals" and the objects are unified with a forest theme. The Tegu Line venue is a venue that preserves the original landscape of snow light. Other venues include Otaru Art Village, Tenguyama, and the newly created Kita Unga venue.

The "warm feelings" will heal the visitors with these lights.

May your wish for peace reach people all over the world!

Looking at the lights, I feel warm and happy. At the same time, I cannot help but wish for a peaceful and comfortable world for people all over the world. I hope that warm feelings will reach the world from Otaru.

During the event, volunteers will light and set up candles one by one every day.
The "Otaru Snow Light Path" will be held for eight days from February 11 (national holiday) to February 18 (Saturday), and the candles will be lit from 17:00 to 21:00. Volunteers are needed to help build the venue during the event. Please come directly to Canal Plaza Warehouse 3 at 13:00 on the day of the event. No contact is necessary. You can enjoy char-grilled Otaru scallops, also known as "Otate," which were featured in "*andtrip." in August and September last year, at the newly built Kita Unga Yuki-akari Yokocho (North Canal Snow Light Alley). For more information, please visit Otaru-Potaru, the homepage of Otaru Tourist Association.
Please use public transportation when you come to Otaru! For example, if you are coming from Sapporo, JR is convenient. If you take the rapid airport train, the ride time is about 34 minutes. A short trip while riding the train is also a good idea. We hope to see you all there! We are looking forward to seeing you at the venue!
