Lake Suwa is located in the center of Nagano Prefecture
Lake Suwa is located in the center of Nagano Prefecture and spans Okaya City, Shimosuwa Town, and Suwa City. It is a *tectonic lake created by the tearing of the earth's crust. With an area of 13.3㎢, a perimeter of 15.9 km, and a maximum depth of 7.2 m, it is the largest in the prefecture.
Surrounded by numerous famous landmarks and historic sites such as Kami-suwa Hot Springs, Shimo-suwa Hot Springs, Suwa-taisha Shrine, Takashima Castle Ruins Park, and sake breweries, it is one of Nagano Prefecture's representative tourist destinations. Suwa is also famous for the Onbashira Festival (official name: Shikinen-zukuri Onbashira-taisai), a grand festival held once every seven years at Suwa-taisha Shrine.
Lake Suwa is a tectonic lake that was formed when the ground caved in due to tectonic movement and water accumulated in the lake.

Access
Approximately 15 minutes by car or 30 minutes on foot from JR Kami-suwa Station.
Tateishi Park and the parking lot will be closed from Monday, December 5, 2022 to mid-March 2023 due to playground equipment renewal work.
Please refrain from parking on the street, as it may cause inconvenience to nearby residents and traffic obstruction.
