Owakudani was born from volcanic activity.
Owakudani is also famous as a hot spring source, and hot spring water is sent to various areas in Hakone. On the northern slope at an elevation of 800 to 1,000 meters, a plume of smoke is still rising. The dynamic activity of the volcano can be seen up close, and the area is crowded with tourists who come to witness it.
