Chorakuji Temple, another temple on the stage of history

Chorakuji Temple is located behind Perry Road. Chorakuji Temple is a small and quiet place compared to Perry Road and Ryosenji Temple where the Treaty of Shimoda was concluded, but did you know that it was actually the site of a significant event in history from the end of the Edo period to the present day?

At the end of the Edo period, during Perry's second visit to Japan and the opening of the port of Shimoda, the Treaty of Friendship between Japan and the United States was ratified, followed by the Treaty of Friendship between the Russian government of the time and the Edo shogunate. If you are strolling in Shimoda, why not visit and think back to the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate?

The temple also has a hall of treasures within its precincts, which can be viewed.
