Minami Izu Cherry Blossom and Rape Blossom Festival
The cold winter may still continue, but from next month, you can immediately enjoy Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) with early-blooming plum and cherry trees! In this issue, we introduce cherry blossom viewing spots in Izu and Atami, which are easily accessible from Tokyo. Plum and cherry blossom festivals are held in accordance with the blooming season, so you can enjoy hanami in a variety of settings! Let's go there to get a head start on spring!

Atami Plum Garden Plum Blossom Festival" to be held in January 2023

Atami's plum blossoms are said to be the earliest blooming in Japan, and 469 plum trees of 60 varieties are in full bloom in Atami during the "Atami Plum Blossom Festival" held from January 7, 2023 (Saturday) to March 5, 2023 (Sunday). During the festival period, free amazake (Japanese sweet sake) and ume tea are served daily, and performances by Atami Geigi Geigi Ren, sword dancers, and other performers are held.

Also, as is typical of the hot spring resort of Atami, footbaths will be available only during the ume festival. After strolling through the ume garden, visitors can relax in the footbath!

Shuzenji Plum Grove," a plum orchard with a view of Mt.

The Shuzenji Plum Grove in Izu Shuzenji usually begins to bloom in late January and is in full bloom by mid-February. As in Shuzenji, where many literary giants have stayed, the ume grove is dotted with haiku monuments.

From 2023, the "Proprietress' Hina Decorations in Hanakomichi" will be revived! Precious hina dolls owned by each ryokan and proprietress in Shuzenji Onsen will be displayed in the second-floor hall of Hanakomichi, an inn built in the Taisho era.

Doi Cherry Blossom Festival," the earliest blooming cherry blossoms in Japan

Dohi Cherry Blossoms" bloom in Izu Dohi Onsen. The Doi cherry tree has large petals and long stems with six to seven flowers per branch, so when in full bloom, the entire tree is decorated with a gorgeous pink color.

The Doi Cherry Blossom Festival will be held from January 20 (Fri.) to February 5 (Sun.) in 2023. During the festival, bonnet tours with guides dressed in dancer's costumes and nighttime cherry blossom illumination will be held.

The most popular cherry blossom festival in Japan! Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival

Kawazu Town will hold the "Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival" from February 1 (Wed.) to February 28 (Tue.), 2023. About 850 "Kawazu-zakura" cherry trees, famous for their early blooming, will be in full bloom along the Kawazu River, and about 8,000 trees will be in full bloom in the entire town of Kawazu!

During the festival period, various events will be held, such as food stalls and lighting up of the Kawazu cherry blossoms at night! Why don't you come and see the deep pink Kawazu-zakura cherry blossoms that reflect on the Kawazu River?

Kawazu Cherry Blossom and Rape Blossom Collaboration "Minami no Sakura and Rape Blossom Festival

The Minami no Sakura and Rape Blossom Festival will be held along the Aono River in Shimogamo Onsen, Minami Izu, from February 1 (Wed) to March 10 (Fri), 2023, where you can enjoy the bright pink and yellow scenery all around. The gentle slope of the bank along the Aono River and the lack of a fence separating the river from the promenade make it easy to take beautiful pictures!

During the festival, visitors can view the cherry blossoms from a rickshaw and see the cherry blossoms and bamboo lights illuminated at night.

It's like a carpet of plum blossoms! Yugawara Plum Grove "Plum Blossom Party

From February 4 (Sat.) to March 12 (Sun.), 2023, the "Ume-no-Entei" will be held at the Yugawara Plum Grove.

Yugawara Plum Grove is a nature-rich park located at the foot of "Makuyama" where magnificent natural scenery can be seen. During the "Ume-no-En" (Plum Blossom Festival), held annually from early February to mid-March, the entire area is covered with plum blossoms, looking like a carpet of plum blossoms!
